Deputy House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-Derby) will be co-hosting a child sexual abuse prevention program with the Beecher Road School Parent Teacher Association in Woodbridge. The event, sponsored by the Children’s Trust Fund is meant to spread awareness to parents in an effort to prevent child sexual abuse. The program gives information on how to reduce the opportunities for adults to teach safety to their children, and protect children by knowing what to look for in a potential predator.
According to statistics from the Children’s Trust Fund, between 84% and 95% of sexually abused children personally know their molester.
“The statistics that demonstrate the level of familiarity between children and those who would perpetrate sex crimes against them is eye opening,” said Representative Klarides. “I am proud to join with the Beecher Road School PTO in co-sponsoring this event to bring awareness to parents, and give them some constructive information to help them be certain their children never become victims of such predators.”
The event will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Beecher Road School at 40 Beecher Road, Woodbridge, at 7:00 p.m.
