Hwang Works with Youth Group to Fight Alzheimer’s

Rep. Tony Hwang attended a recent meeting of the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter where he spoke to a group of young people planning for a Memory Walk, the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Hwang discussed marketing strategies with these young, dedicated volunteers working to spread the word about their cause. The young students are part of Remember Alzheimer’s – A Youth Movement, which is an initiative run by young people to increase awareness about the disease among their peers. They receive training to teach other young people about Alzheimer’s. These students, from Fairfield County, are part of a new group that already has 19 members.

About the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter: It’s the leading donor supported voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. It provides services to those affected by Alzheimer’s; advocate for policy change and research funding; and advance research toward prevention, brain health treatment and cure. The organization’s HQ is in Chicago and Washington, D.C. There are 71 chapters nationwide to serve those living with Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk, nationally presented by Genworth Financial, is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This event calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

Fairfield County’s Memory Walk will be held on Sunday, October 4th in Norwalk at Calf Pasture Beach at 69 Calf Pasture Beach Road. Registration for the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 10:00 a.m. Other walk sites: Sunday, October 4th 2009 in Enfield and Waterford, Sunday, October 4th, 2009 in Hartford and New Haven.
