HARTFORD- State Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-112) announced today her appointment by House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan to the Legislative Task Force on Children in the Recession.
“The current economic downturn affects not only working adults, but has a devastating impact on Connecticut’s children as well,” said Rep. Hovey. “As an educator, I am keenly aware of the consequences this recession will have on the health, education, and welfare of young people, particularly those already at-risk or economically disadvantaged. I am eager to begin work as a member of the Legislative Task Force on Children in the Recession in order to craft an aggressive, bi-partisan plan to ensure that Connecticut’s most valuable resource, its children, are provided every opportunity to succeed despite the current economic challenges we face as a state.”
The Legislative Task Force on Children in the Recession was formed on June 16, 2009 by House Speaker Christopher Donovan, and is led by Co-Chairs Reps. Diana Urban of North Stonington and Karen Jarmoc of Enfield. The panel is tasked with making recommendations to the Speaker on how the state can best respond to declining social welfare conditions for children resulting from the current economic recession. Connecticut is the first state to establish a legislative task force on this matter. The panel will first meet in September 2009.
