Rep. Giegler: “Democrats Choose More Government Over More Jobs”

HARTFORD- State Rep. Janice R. Giegler (R-138)today issued the following statement on the passage of the Democrats’ budget proposal for the 2010 and 2011 fiscal years.  Representative Giegler joined a unanimous Republican caucus in voting against the budget plan:

“If our budget is a statement of our priorities as a state, the Democrats have made clear they place a premium on growing the size of government and are totally disinterested in attracting jobs to the state of Connecticut.  This budget increases taxes during the worst recession we’ve seen in a generation and virtually guarantees that more workers will lose their jobs and more businesses will flee our state.  To add insult to injury, the Democrats’ budget contains no appreciable cuts to state spending, ensuring that we will continue to confront deficits caused by an unaffordable government year after year.  The revenue streams upon which they rely to close this deficit are unstable and unsustainable, virtually assuring the General Assembly will have to come back in just a few short months to mitigate another mid-year deficit.  I joined my caucus in presenting a balanced budget that did not raise taxes and reduced the size of state government because my mission as a public servant is to ensure that every Connecticut worker who needs a job can find a job.  It is a shame my colleagues on the other side of the aisle do not share this priority.”
