Rep. Miller Votes Against Anti-Jobs Budget

Hartford  State Representative Lawrence G. Miller (R-122nd) today issued the following statement on the passage of a budget containing $1.5 billion in tax increases by the House of Representatives:

“In nearly 20 years as a Legislator, I have not seen the House of Representatives take action as irresponsible as the budget passed by House Democrats today.  Amidst the worst economic crisis we have seen in a generation, the Majority has opted to balance the budget on the backs of those who create jobs and provide a livelihood for Connecticut families.  Rather than make real cuts to state spending that are reflective of falling state revenues, the majority has instead opted to increase spending and shake down the taxpayers to fund it.  Connecticut’s reputation as one of the most anti-business, highest taxed, and unaffordable states to live in has now been further cemented by the Democrat majority.  This budget is a missed opportunity to reduce state government to a size the taxpayers can afford.  It is a lost chance to position our state for a faster economic recovery by making Connecticut an attractive and affordable place to do business and raise a family.  These are the priorities I articulated in joining my caucus to propose a no-tax-increase budget, and they are the priorities I stood up for today by voting no on the budget passed by the Democratic Majority.”
