Hartford— State Representative Jason Perillo issued the following statement on 700-plus page budget plan approved today by the House of Representatives:
“It was my duty as a representative of the people and a champion of the taxpayers to vote against this budget. Democrat leadership dumped a bill totaling over 700 pages on our desks just hours before they rammed it through the chamber, ensuring that not a single member of the House of Representatives knew what he or she was voting on in its entirety. This is no way to craft a budget as we face an $8 billion deficit, 70,000 newly unemployed Connecticut residents, and 26,000 fewer employers to guide us out of this recession. House Republicans negotiated in good faith with our colleagues and the Governor to show there was a better way: one that did not needlessly steamroll the taxpayers and result in future job losses. It is unfortunate that our ideas were not given the time of day by politicians hungry for an ever larger state government.”
