Representative Noujaim pins a CT Veterans Wartime Service medal on Waterbury World War II U. S. Army veteran Nicholas Fappiano’s lapel after he received the decoration at a special ceremony September 9th at the Palace Theater. Looking on are Mr. Fappiano’s son Michael and daughter Donna Lorusso. A member of the Army’s Signal Corps, Mr. Fappiano participated in the Aleutian Islands campaign in 1942-43, after the Japanese invaded and occupied the islands of Attu and Kiska, which are part of Alaska. It was the only campaign of World War II that was fought on North American soil.
