Reps. Rowe and Hwang Address Madison Middle School on Veterans Day

Reps Rowe and Hwang with Sgt. Robert Harry and veteran Bob LutzHartford- Yesterday Representatives T.R. Rowe (R-Trumbull) and Tony Hwang (R- Trumbull, Fairfield) addressed students and veterans at Madison Middle School as part of a Veterans Day general assembly.

“Today is a very special day for our country and it is important to show respect and appreciation to the men and women that have sacrificed so much so that we may enjoy freedom here at home,” Rep. Rowe stated after the assembly. “It is equally important that our youth are taught to respect our servicemen and understand how valuable our veterans are to our country.”

In addition to Representatives Rowe and Hwang, State Senator Anthony Musto and 1st Selectman Ray Baldwin also made remarks and Sgt. Robert Harry of Trumbull made the keynote speech. Each branch of the military was honored individually with the playing of the official song of each branch and the day’s events concluded with a wreath laying ceremony outside of Madison Middle School.

“It was an honor to address the students and the veterans at today’s assembly,” said Rep. Hwang. “We must never forget the events of our country’s past and the role that our veterans played in protecting our way of life. The recent tragedy at Fort Hood serves as a sad reminder that there is a war going on and our military continues to fight daily for America both at home and abroad. Today is set aside to honor our veterans but we should do our best to keep them in mind everyday.”
