Rigby Votes to Help Small Businesses

HARTFORD — Finance Committee member Rep. John Rigby today supported a measure that would have ended the business entity tax Connecticut companies have to pay each year. Sen. Andrew Roraback, R-Goshen, proposed it through an amendment to a majority party bill that would impose a nearly 9 percent tax on corporate bonuses of a million dollars or more. The amendment failed 33-13 during a Finance Committee meeting, though Rigby, like Roraback, was among those who voted for it. “This is a bill companies have to pay whether they make a profit or not,” he said. “For the guy nurturing an idea, deciding whether or not to open up shop, this bill is a real barrier.”
