A COMMON SENSE COMMITMENT TO CONNECTICUT
As your state Representative, my budget votes will continue to be guided by these important public policy principles:
DON’T SPEND WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE
• Reduce spending to what we can reasonably anticipate in revenue without assessing new taxes
• Abide by Connecticut’s constitutional spending cap
DON’T BORROW WHAT YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO REPAY
• Borrowing should be restricted to public works projects, including school construction, roads and rails, serving the greater public good and creating jobs for Connecticut workers
• Fund projects by competitive grants that are awarded based upon return on investment, i.e., job creation and economic development
REDUCE THE SIZE AND SCOPE OF GOVERNMENT
• Focus on core government functions: Public safety, education, transportation, public health
• Consolidate government services to eliminate duplication, excess, and waste
• Privatize non-core functions
The citizens of the 23rd District and Connecticut deserve a state government that is efficient, cost-effective and responsive to those it serves. In representing you, that is my goal and my common sense commitment to you and to Connecticut.
