“I’m honored to be out here today volunteering for such a lovely American holiday tradition centered around helping the neediest among us. The Salvation Army provides for the poor and hungry both at Christmas and all year round. Their famous red kettles and silver bells on our street corners are truly part of our holiday season. I’m honored to be part of such a long standing tradition like the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign and thankful to Wal-Mart for generously agreeing to match my fundraising,” said LeGeyt.

The Salvation Army Red Kettles have been an American tradition since 1891 when a Salvation Army Captain in San Francisco sought to provide a free Christmas dinner to the area’s poor. Now, the charity serves over 35 million people world-wide to provide food, shelter, clothing and other assistance to the aged, ill, poor and unfortunate.

“The holiday season is about joy, goodwill towards others, peace on earth, giving, and being with the ones we love. I hope in the midst of all the hustle and bustle we remember to pause, reflect, give of ourselves and share the joy of this season,” said LeGeyt.

The Avon Wal-Mart is located at 255 West Main St. in Avon.
