HARTFORD- Oakville State Rep. Sean Williams (R-68) has been appointed by House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero to be the House Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which is the tax-writing committee in the General Assembly.
“I’m honored to have been chosen by Rep. Cafero to lead the Republicans on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee,” Representative Williams said. “As the lead Republican on the committee, I will continue to be an advocate for lower taxes and a more efficient government. These are tough economic times, and we need to grow our economy with more jobs, not more taxes.”
“We need to be cognizant of the fact that we as a state spend almost 9% of our budget on debt service payments. This legislative session will be a major test for the legislature’s willingness to resist the temptation to increase taxes or borrow money to pay for ongoing expenses. We have a golden opportunity in 2011 to change and reform state government.”
In addition to his service on the Finance Committee, Williams will continue to serve as a member of the Energy and Technology Committee where he has been a recognized leader in state-wide energy policy. He will also continue to serve on the Commerce Committee where he will continue his efforts to attract quality, private sector jobs to Connecticut. In recent years as a member of the Commerce Committee, Rep. Williams fought for brownfields legislation which would permit and facilitate the redevelopment of brownfields as an economic development tool.
