Sampson Helps Honor Longtime Community Volunteer in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — They don’t make them like Garth Singer anymore. Community members gathered here tonight to pay tribute to Singer, who has volunteered for the town for more than four decades. Rep. Rob Sampson was at Spartan II restaurant, where folks talked about Singer’s long service to the volunteer fire department here. He joined Plantsville Engine Company 2 way back in 1966, and he served the department as a firefighter, the company secretary and in the fire police. Sampson, who’s wife is a volunteer firefighter in Wolcott, said appreciates the efforts of men and women who serve their communities. Sampson gave Singer, who also served on the school board, a special citation from the General Assembly.
