Useful Numbers for Hurricane Aftermath

Below are some numbers that you might find useful as we continue to recover from the effects of Irene. As always, you can feel free to call my office at (860) 240-8700 or toll free at  (800) 842-1423.

Insurance:
Call the company or visit a mobile claims center to start your claim. If you need help locating your company or agent, contact the Connecticut Insurance Department at 800-203-3447 or use 860-297-3900 for further information.

Retail:
After Gov. Dannel P. Malloy declared a state of emergency,  the anti-gouging laws became effective at 1 p.m. Friday. That will last at least until midnight Wednesday.  Section 42-230 of the state statutes says that gouging is not permitted on any retail item in a location which is subject to a disaster emergency declaration issued by the governor.

Anyone who believes a price has been hiked unreasonably because of the emergency can call the state’s Department of Consumer Protection at 1-800-842-2649.

Travel:
For the latest information, check the MTA’s website at www.mta.info and sign up for customer email and text message alerts.

It may very well be a week before the majority of customers’ power is restored as there are nearly 800,000 outages compared to previous storms of this magnitude that had over 400,000.
