Davis Rings Bell, Helps Raise Money for Community

HARTFORD – Last night State Representative Christopher Davis (R- Ellington) volunteered to ring a bell for the Salvation Army outside of the East Windsor Wal-Mart to help raise money for the community during this holiday season.

In just one hour of ringing the legislator raised $389.74 in donations in the famous red Salvation Army kettle. That money goes directly to the Salvation Army but, as in years past, Wal-Mart will graciously make a dollar-for-dollar match and will send their contribution to the Five Corner Cupboard bringing the total amount that will go to charity to $779.48.

The Five Corner Cupboard is East Windsor’s only food pantry that was started 35 years ago as a mission of the First Congregational Church of East Windsor.

“This is a special time of year but, for some, it can also be more difficult than usual,” Rep. Davis said. “It’s really nice to see an outpouring of support from the community for those in need, it’s heartwarming. The Salvation Army and the Five Corner Cupboard are great organizations that do so much to help our community and I can’t thank Wal-Mart enough for their support as well.”

Marie Groves, who oversees the Five Corner Cupboard was thrilled to have the donation and grateful for the generous people that were in the giving mood this holiday season.

“We are so grateful for Chris’ interest in and Wal-Mart’s continuing support of The Five Corner Cupboard,” Said Groves. “The money raised will help us provide sorely needed food and hygiene items for our neighbors in need. Our thanks to Chris, Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart shoppers- what a great team!”
