On Wednesday evening, December 14, Rep. Jason Perillo took to the sidewalks outside WalMart in Shelton armed only with a small silver bell to raise funds for the Salvation Army. In the hour Rep. Perillo spent outside talking to patrons he managed to raise $150.15 in donation. WalMart matched the donations dollar for dollar raising a total of $300.30 for the causes the Salvation Army champions.
The Salvation Army charities help 30 million people annually in getting food, shelter and warmth. The traditional red kettle which is often seen during the Holidays, is used to raise donations that provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need. Financial assistance also helps with basic necessities, along with seasonal aid.
