Rep. Lavielle attends Education Forum

The primary focus of the 2012 legislative session will be education, and this is an exciting time to be serving on the Education Committee. At the January 5 statewide education summit, I had an opportunity to hear the perspectives of all the groups involved in debate on the issues that are vital to education reform. The workshop took place at Central Connecticut State University, and it was most interesting to hear from and talk with members of the State Department of Education, school superintendents, several reform advocacy organizations, the State Board of Education, union officials, administrators of teacher preparation programs, and others.

During the upcoming session, it is my hope that all of us in the General Assembly will stay focused on the needs of our state’s students, and that we will combine innovative thinking and fiscal discipline to bring about true legislative reform that will make closing Connecticut’s yawning achievement gap possible.

Reps Kupchick, Lavielle, Kokoruda and Rebimbas attend Jan 15 Education Forum at CCSU.
