Rep. Smith attends Danbury medical program launch

Rep. Smith, together with fellow legislative and public health leaders, celebrated the launch of a brand new Primary Care Medical Residency Program in Danbury – the only such program in our State.

The program’s purpose is to train graduate medical students going in to primary care – a national shortage area – and in turn to grow Connecticut’s pool of expertly trained primary care physicians in the Greater Danbury area. The program, which is expected to create over 25 permanent jobs, is supported through a collaboration between the Connecticut Institute for Communities, the Greater Danbury Community Health Center, Danbury Hospital, the Western Connecticut Health Network and the University of Vermont Medical School.

Rep. Smith was joined at the event by Reps. Jan Giegler and David Scribner, State Senator Michael McLachlan and Governor Dannel Malloy.
