Celebrate Earth Day this weekend in Madison!

This Sunday, April 22nd, is Earth Day and there is no better excuse to get outside and do something for our community and the planet.  There are several ways to get involved in keeping Madison clean, and I wanted to make you aware of what is happening this weekend.

MADISON’S ANNUAL GREEN UP CLEAN UP DAY – APRIL 21, 2012

Reach out to your family members, neighbors and any groups you are involved in to join us and support this great cause. Keep an eye out for places that are in need of a clean up.

To register call the Beach and Recreation Department at 203-245-5623. They need to know how many people will be in your group and where you would like to clean.

On Saturday, April 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. check in at the Memorial Town Hall (8 Meetinghouse Lane) or Roberts Food Center (North Madison Shopping Center.) Pick up your supplies: bags, gloves, and safety vests for the children and then start cleaning!

When you have finished, bring the your collected waste to the dumpsters at the Memorial Town Hall or at Robert’s Food Center.

Madison’s Annual Green Up, Clean Up Day has been helping resolve the problem of roadside litter for many years now. In previous years, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., 400 to 500 residents and diverse civic groups have gathered together and collected up to 4 tons of litter in a 4-hour period.

I want to encourage everyone to get involved to make this year’s Earth Day a success!
