HARTFORD – Last December State Representative Christopher Davis (R- Ellington) volunteered to ring a bell for the Salvation Army outside of the East Windsor Wal-Mart to help raise money for the community.
In just one hour of ringing the legislator raised $389.74 in donations in the famous red Salvation Army kettle. That money went directly to the Salvation Army but, as in years past, Wal-Mart agreed to graciously make a dollar-for-dollar match and send their contribution to the Five Corner Cupboard in East Windsor. Recently, Wal-Mart delivered the donation to Five Corner Cupboard that will go toward helping families in the community.
The Five Corner Cupboard serves approximately 100 families a month and gives each family a weeks worth of food. All of the food is either donated or purchased through monetary contributions. The Five Corner Cupboard is East Windsor’s only food pantry that was started 35 years ago as a mission of the First Congregational Church of East Windsor.
