Reps. Carter, Shaban recognize McMorran on top principal award

According to the Connecticut Association of Schools, Dr. Thomas McMorran, principal of Joel Barlow High School, is Connecticut’s top principal. State Representatives John Shaban and Dan Carter made a visit to Joel Barlow High School this week to present Dr. McMorran with an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly to recognize him for this accomplishment.

“Dr. McMorran is an incredible asset to our school system,” Shaban said. “Our community and our children are lucky to have a leader like Tom to keep our school performing at such a high level.”

The Principal of the Year Program was established by the Connecticut Association of Schools to bring recognition to exemplary school principals and to increase public awareness of the critical role that principals play in the education of our youth. The winners are chosen each year by the CAS Awards and Recognition Committee.

“Dr. McMorran sets a great example for the administrators, teachers and staff at JBHS and it’s apparent by the mood in the school and the performance of the students. With our children’s futures at stake, we are fortunate to have Tom in charge,” Carter added.

McMorran is now in the running for National High School Principal of the Year award and will be invited to attend an awards gala in Washington D.C. in September.

Both legislators have children that are currently attending Joel Barlow High School.
