Rep. Rebimbas promotes Veterans Day essay contest

I would like to inform you about a statewide student essay contest aimed at encouraging young people to learn more about the heroism and importance of American servicemen and women throughout our nation’s history.

All Connecticut sixth, seventh and eighth graders may enter the contest, which is sponsored by the Navy League of the United States – Hartford Council and the State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs.

Entrants are asked to write a one-page essay of 500 words or less entitled “What It Means to be a Veteran.” A panel of judges will select one top essay winner and two runners-up.

The top winner will ride in a special vehicle in the 13th Annual Connecticut Veterans Parade on Sunday, November 4.

The submission deadline is Friday, September 28. Contest rules and applications are available online now at www.ctveteransdayparade.org or at www.ct.gov/ctva, or by calling (860) 653-4484.

The 13th Annual Connecticut Veterans Parade will be held in Downtown Hartford on Sunday, November 4, starting at 12:30pm. The procession is New England’s largest veterans parade and one of the largest salutes to veterans in the country.

Please encourage the young people in your life to honor the contributions of our brave U.S. veterans and take part in this contest.
