About David Labriola

State Representative David K. Labriola is a respected leader at the Connecticut General Assembly who takes pride in his record of service to the people of Oxford, Naugatuck and Southbury.

Recognizing Representative Labriola for the leadership skills he demonstrated as the House Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the General Assembly’s Education Committee (2005 – 2006), House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, appointed him as an Assistant Republican Leader for the 2007 – 2010 legislative sessions and as Republican Whip for the 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 sessions.

Representative Labriola serves on the General Assembly’s Transportation, Government Administration and Elections, and Judiciary committees. He is a former member of the Regulation Review Committee.

Representative Labriola was elected to his first term representing the 131st Assembly District, which includes Oxford and sections of Naugatuck and Southbury, on November 5, 2002. He was reelected in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Born in 1960, David Labriola is a Naugatuck native. He attended public elementary schools, the Hillside Middle School and was a 1978 Naugatuck High School graduate.

Representative Labriola graduated from Yale University in 1982. He was elected Vice-Chairman of the Yale College Republicans and was a member of the tennis team. During his college years, he campaigned on behalf of his father, Dr. Gerald Labriola, who was elected to the state Senate.

Representative Labriola graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1985.  While attending law school, he worked as an investigator at the State of Connecticut Victim’s Services Commission, assisting victims of crime.

Representative Labriola served as the political director of his father’s gubernatorial campaign in 1985-86. In 1986, he served as a temporary assistant clerk at the Waterbury Superior Court. From 1988 to 1990, Representative Labriola was an associate attorney at the Law Offices of N. Warren Hess in Naugatuck.

From 1990 to 1993, Representative Labriola operated a solo law practice in Naugatuck. He served as a Naugatuck Police Commissioner from 1991 to 1993. In 1993, he and his brother, Attorney Gerald Labriola, Jr., formed the law firm of Labriola and Labriola, LLC in Naugatuck. David Labriola was appointed Naugatuck Borough Attorney in 1995, for a two-year term.

Representative Labriola has always been active in his community. He is a past member of the Naugatuck Exchange Club and the Attorney’s Committee of the United Way. He has been recognized for pro bono service by the Connecticut Bar Association and the Waterbury Bar Association. He formerly served on the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation.

Representative Labriola is a former Naugatuck Republican Town Committee chairman, a position he held from 1988 to 1991. During his tenure, John Letts, the first Republican Mayor of Naugatuck in sixteen years, was elected. Representative Labriola also served as vice-chairman of the Naugatuck Republican Town Committee from 1998 to 2002.

Representative Labriola resides in Oxford.  David’s son Nick is a prosecutor and lives with his wife Andrea and their sons Quincy and Jaiden in Kentucky.
