About Mike Alberts

Mike Alberts is a dedicated legislator who takes pride in constituent service and working to make the 50th District a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Representative Alberts has been named Ranking Member of the legislature’s Banking Committee. He also serves on the General Assembly’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee and the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

Representative Alberts is currently Senior Vice President and Senior Commercial Relationship Manager at Simsbury Bank. Previously, he was VP & Commercial Loan Officer at Simsbury Bank and VP of the Savings Institute Bank & Trust Company. He also held a number of managerial positions at Fleet Bank from 1987-2002.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Representative Alberts has been a resident of Woodstock since 1989. He graduated from Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford in 1976 with Honors. In 1980 Representative Alberts received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The University of Connecticut. In 1987 he received his Masters of Business Administration degree in Finance, also from The University of Connecticut. In 2000, he received his Certified Financial Planner CFP ® designation.

From 1980 through May 1, 1985 Representative Alberts served on active duty as an Air Force officer. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on May 18, 1980 he was promoted to Captain on October 18, 1984. While on active duty Representative Alberts became certified as a fully-qualified air traffic control officer at Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina. At Loring AFB, Maine, he was Chief and Deputy Chief of Air Traffic Control Operations. In recognition of his military achievements Representative Alberts was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in May 1985.

After leaving active duty, Representative Alberts continued to serve the nation and the State of Connecticut in the 103rd Tactical Fighter Group of the Connecticut Air National Guard and in October 1988 he was promoted to Major. Representative Alberts resigned his position as Chief of Public Affairs for the unit in October 1989.

Representative Alberts was elected Selectman for the Town of Woodstock in 2003. He has previously served Woodstock as Chairman of its Board of Finance and its Middle School Building Committee. Representative Alberts has also been elected to alternate positions on the Board of Finance and the Economic Development Commission. He was first sworn-in as State Representative for the 50th district in January 2005.

Representative Alberts has two children, Zachary, 18, and Cleo, 15. Zack and Cleo reside with Representative Alberts in Woodstock.
