Residents of the 2nd General Assembly District in November 2010 elected Bethel resident and health care professional Dan Carter to represent them in Hartford. Ohio-native Carter has strong middle class roots, growing up as the son of a police officer and a nurse. He is a graduate of Bowling Green University, where he earned a degree in political science. He also holds a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Science. While in college, Carter joined the U.S. Air Force ROTC program — a move that eventually saw him become a C-130 “Hercules” pilot. Carter served in Saudi Arabia in support of operation Desert Storm, and he also served two tours over war-torn Bosnia through NATO. Carter also participated in missions supporting this country’s drug interdiction program in Central America. His military work earned him the Meritorious Service Medal.
