WATERFORD – State Representative Kathleen McCarty (R-Waterford), member of the Legislative Education Committee, proudly presented a citation to Quaker Hill Elementary School Principal Christopher Discordia on Friday to mark the occasion of Quaker Hill being named as Outstanding Elementary School of the 2017-2018 School Year. Waterford Superintendent of Schools Tom Giard accepted the award from the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS).
Each year CAS awards this prestigious recognition to schools in Connecticut that provide an outstanding educational environment and strive to promote Best Practices.
According to a CAS release, the committee was “impressed with the inclusive and accepting environment that focuses on meeting the needs of every student, the multiple venues for communication with parents and community, and the multitude of learning opportunities for students. [Quaker Hill’s] dedication to the implementation of Zone of Regulation is a testament to the high level of commitment and belief in the power of all children. The choices given to students in their programs and after school opportunities are commendable and enhanced by the high level of staff support. The tremendous show of support by the parents, administration, staff, and students, as well as their numerous references to the collaboration and caring at Quaker Hill Elementary School, confirms the committee’s recommendation for the CAS Elementary School of the Year.”
